Young Ecologist Program: Environmental Science

  • Location: 1137 Senoia Road, Suite A, Tyrone, GA 30290
  • Dates:  January 27th, February 3rd, May 12th
  • Time: 10AM - 12PM
  • Grades: 4th - 8th
  • Cost: $35 per student
  • Class Descriptions:
    • Meet Soil Scientist. Students learn about the similarities and differences of texture, particle size and color in topsoil such as (clay, loam potting soil, and sand) as well as how recent development of new technology pH meters, Google Earth, (GIS) Geography Information Systems, Soil & Geology maps have reduced or eliminated much of the time and expense of collecting samples and sending them to a lab to be tested. All Hands-On!
    • Meet our Biologists. Students learn about the characteristics of Nonliving & Living organisms. Group animals and plants according to their observable features such as appearance and size, etc.

Introduction to Hydroponics: Environmental Science

  • Class Descriptions:
    • Meet Certified Master Gardener. Students will make their own Hydroponic system as well as learn that Hydroponics is basically growing plants without soil. It is a more efficient way to provide food and water to your plants. Plants don’t use soil, they use the food and water that are in the soil. Soil’s function is to supply plants nutrients and to anchor the plants roots. In a hydroponic garden, you provide your plants with a complete nutrient formula and an inert growing medium to anchor your plants roots so they have easier access to the food and water. What a fun way to learn- Hands-On!

Introduction to Aeronautics: Engineering & Design

  • Class Descriptions:
    • How did the Wright brothers get their ideas? How did they invent the theories and craft to test those ideas? Re-live the Wright brothers' inventive process using the resources, including hands-on activities and games, archives of interactive webcasts/broadcasts, and background information on the Wright brother. Students engage in designed activities to challenge students to use basic math and problem-solving skills.

Paige Martin Books & Art | Doll Making Workshops |Friday STEAM Paint Party

    • 10 AM - 12 PM (Grade 2nd - 5th Only)
    • 1 PM - 3 PM (Grade 6th - 12th Only)
  • Class Descriptions:
    • Meet Paige Martin the Artist and Creator of Color of Humanity Dolls and Accessories which are handmade.
    • Doll Making is an STEM/STEAM activity. Fine motor skills and improvement in dexterity is an essential skill in engineering, including mechanical, electrical, and technical engineering. Art and engineering are all components we focus on in our workshops.
    • Students will gain the basic knowledge in understanding the history of doll making and the ability to take recycled and common items infused with some imagination to produce a doll with media using their hands to practice using their fine motor skills for engineering and small construction.

You Be the Chemist: Chemistry

  • Class Descriptions:
    • This workshop brings chemistry to the classroom!
    • Meet Sensory Scientist/ Chemist from Coca-Cola as she presents chemistry activities and discuss careers in Chemistry. Learn about the pathway you will need to pursue a Food Science Degree. This class is full of exciting activities and information. Looking for a fun way to bring hands-on science to student. Join us!

Coding Step by Step

  • Location: 1137 Senoia Road, Suite A, Tyrone, GA 30290
  • Date: October 7th, 14th
  • Grades: K - 3rd
  • Time: 1PM - 3PM
  • Cost: $35 per student
  • Class Descriptions:
    • The students are introduced to solving a problem step by step. Similar to stop motion animation-working with a deck of cards with images of a robot in various poses, the student follow as the instructor uses the 3ERobot Coder to create robot motions.

Introduction to Coding Workshop

  • Date: October 7th, 14th
  • Grades: 3rd - 8th
  • Time: 1PM - 3PM
  • Cost: $35 per student
  • Class Descriptions:
    • The students learn software coding concepts using the 3ERobot Coder web application. After a brief overview of software coding, the students use a simple text-based scripting language to animate a robot character. The students will learn basic software coding concepts that apply to all software coding languages. These concepts include keywords, syntax, objects, re-usable code, looping, compiling, debugging, and simulations. The coding skills acquired during this workshop prepare the students to control the life-size humanoid robots of 3E Robotics in subsequent workshops.

Advanced 3ERobot Coding Workshop

    • The students learn advanced software coding concepts using the 3ERobot Coder web application. The students work on a project to showcase their new skills. The coding skills acquired during this workshop prepare the students to control the life-size humanoid robots of 3E Robotics in subsequent workshops.

    • Students learn advanced methods using Javascript with the 3ERobot Coder application.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

YELL! Academy has high expectations for all students. These expectations are designed to promote the well being of each student and to ensure that each child is able to reach his/her fullest potential. Each student will be required to do the following:

  1. Respect the property and persons of fellow students at the program, teachers and student assistants as well as all others not directly associated with the program.
  2. Always act in a manner that will promote opportunities to learn.
  3. Have a positive attitude about learning and involvement in the program.
  4. Politely communicate any concerns directly to teachers or student assistants.
  5. No “horseplay” of any kind will be tolerated. Students are representatives of YELL! Academy during their involvement with the STEM programs.
  6. No weapons of any kind are permitted on the any of the program locations. This includes but is not limited to guns, knives, switchblades, pocketknives, and any other instruments that could be used as weapons. Any student who brings a weapon to the program will be dismissed from the program immediately.
  7. A student who violates any of these rules will be immediately dismissed from the program.
